Full AC overhaul performed Summer 2020 (~$2500 cost). You might think that working AC is a “nice to have,” but let me assure you, it’s a need-to-have. The giant windows in the Vanagon mean it’s like a greenhouse when the sun is out. Over 70 degrees and you will roast without strong, working AC!
Lithium Ion inverter & battery ($1000 + labor): We installed a Goal Zero 1000 (100Ah) lithium ion power center where the traditional fridge was located. It still looks as though the fridge is installed but behind the door is a shelf and the power plant. It’s hardwired into the van and runs the fridge described below, as well as most other auxiliary power needs. We also installed a special solar charger controller that increases charging efficiency on the Goal Zero. Installation of an additional boon docking 110v outlet that runs off the Goal Zero, an additional reading light over the bed, as well as some LED lighting complete the electrical upgrades recently done on this van. This setup allows you to run an espresso machine or a microwave (both included), or power your laptop for remote working.
4 new tires (~$800 cost) Spring 2020.
Propane system retrofit ($500 + Labor) with interior hose to run Little Buddy Propane Heater (also included). This retrofit is a brand new tank and regulator and allows you to safely fill the tank at any filling station.
GoWesty Cruise Control ($400 + labor).
Thin and discreet 100w Solar Panel ($200 + labor).
Apicool CF35 12V Portable Refrigerator/Freezer ($300 + labor): Can be used as a refrigerator OR a freezer and stores 35 cubic liters (3-5 days of fresh food or more depending on your diet). As mentioned above, we removed the original refrigerator – which works and comes with the van – and installed this unit between the front seats. It’s way more efficient and stays way colder than the original fridge.
After-market stereo with auxiliary input ($300).
