More Details & Pictures

Overview:

VW Vanagon Westfalia Camper from 1986 with a 2.1L rebuilt engine installed in 2020, with less than 10k miles on it.
Really good exterior and interior conditions, with original camper equipment (stove, fridge, faucet, all the cabinets and tables, swivel seats at the front, 2 beds, 3-windows pop top tent). Ready to go on some adventures! (Passed smog last month)

Context:
I’m moving out of the country and so unfortunately have to sell my beloved ‘John John’ (yes this is his name!)
I bought it more than 4y ago, becoming his third owner. He helped me to discover the West, for nice weekends around California or extended road trips beyond (we went to NV, UT, ID, WY, MT, WA and OR!). You can see some pictures of these trips here:

Mechanic:
I’ll be able to provide all the detailed invoices of the work done on the van since I bought it and even earlier (all the way to 1986). During the last 4y it has been taken care of by 523Rods, a Vanagon specialized shop in Richmond. Selection of work done:

2021:
– New catalytic converter
– Distributor wiring
2020:
– Changed engine with a 2.1L rebuilt engine from Tuttles Inc (<10k miles since then)
– Power steering pump
– New ignition coil and alternator
2019:
– New radiator, coolant expansion tank and hoses
– Brakes change (master cylinder, pads, hoses)
– New battery

Interior:
Original interior in really good condition: all cabinets in good shape, 2 tables, 2 front swivel seats
Equipment: Stove (and propane tank) working well, sink too with a clean water tank, electric or propane powered fridge working (I only used it on the electric mode), but let’s be honest, it’s a 30+ years old fridge, so don’t expect amazing performances!
Beds (sleep 4): both bottom foldable bed and top bed / pop top in good condition. 3-windows pop top tent was changed a bit before I bought it. The 3-windows feature (with mosquito net) is just the best!
Radio/CD system, but back speakers don’t work (I’ve been using a portable Bluetooth speaker instead, so never really checked what was the problem).

Exterior:
Body in really good shape. No rust, big scratches, or dents (see pictures for couple small spots). Windows sealing done 5 years ago.

Others:
– I installed an anti-theft system (after it was stolen couple times – no issues since then!) and can also provide a GPS tracker.
– Odometer indicates ~174k miles, but according to carfax report, it must have 50k miles more (odometer issue in 2009)
– Any bad stuff?! Again, the van is ready to go, but for sure you can always work on a 35 years old car! What could come next? Shock absorbers have been a bit noisy the last couple years, did not bother me much, but there may be something to do here to avoid it. Also changing speeds sometimes requires a bit of strength – same, there may be something to do to make it smoother.

Have to sell it quickly as I’m leaving, so opened to offers, but please be serious!

  1. Would like to know if your 1986 Westfalen Van is still for sale?
Please contact me if is. Like it’s name John John and would keep that name.
