1984 Volkswagon Vanagon Full Camper
Conversion, sturdy mount, 2002 Subaru Legacy Engine.

This Vanagon is the ultimate adventure vehicle. We’ve done the full conversion, to a 2002 Subaru Legacy 2.5 SOHC engine, complete with a new rebuilt transmission geared to match, new starter, new clutch, new wheels, new ball joints, new suspension, and surround sound. The sink holds 15 gallons of drinking water, and has a brand new pump. Both stoves work perfectly, and the 3 gallon propane tank lasts for 6 months if you run it for 2 hours a day. We traveled all the way to Panama and back, exploring every jungle, ruin, pyramid, desert, and beach, and thoroughly enjoyed being able to park anywhere and cook a hot meal. We converted the fridge to a shelved cupboard space, which made things very convenient. We also installed an auxiliary battery, and never had any problems starting up in the morning, even when we ran the fan all night or had the interior light on for hours of games. The new engine has almost 20,000 miles on it. It runs great and gets 19-22 miles/gallon (city-freeway). It can go 90 miles/hr, but the gas milage severely drops when you do.

The pop-top tent is brand new, with three windows, the skylight is new, and everything has been kept up. We can send a detailed list of the improvements we’ve made, and the cost of each to anyone interested.

We never bothered upgrading the exterior because we intended to use this as an adventure vehicle. The paint is original. There are rust spots, the rear end has a ding on the passenger side, and the rear bumper has dents. The sliding door handle is also missing. The door can easily be opened from the inside. We haven’t looked into how much it would cost for a new paint job, to fix the dents, or to replace the door handle. Apparently on the GoWesty website, camper vans like this, with new paint jobs go for quite a bit. You could probably fix up the outside and make a bit of money, but we are hoping to find a couple or adventurous person that wants to take this vehicle out on more life changing adventures. This vehicle has another 20 years of life in it. We are selling because we recently moved to Kentucky for a job, and cannot use the vehicle as it should be used. Sad to say goodbye, but hope to get another chance in the future for these kinds of adventures again.

We made 2 quick videos to show you the vehicle. You can watch them here:

We are asking $29,500.
