The day has come for me to sell my beloved Vanagon.

I’ve spent the last few years (and all of my money) turning this classic into a kickass updated camper, but a family health crisis is pulling me back to Colorado and I need to pay for the move. I’ve gone back and forth on this a bunch but it’s time for my Westy to find a new home.

Now that we’re getting our first taste of spring in the air I know some of you are starting to look out your office windows and daydream of warmer weather, campfire nights and scoping waves cruising down the 101. Bonus: you’ll make friends everywhere you go, whether it’s a fellow VW enthusiast or folks reminiscing about their camping days, everybody wants to come check out your rig.

Another bonus: There aren’t a lot of diesel westfalias out there, but without the roof box this baby gets about 25 MPG, compared to 16-17 for gasoline vanagons. With the way things are looking, this could just keep your summer road trip budget within reason.

This vanagon has been extremely well maintained and the interior is super clean with a number of upgrades:

-BRAND NEW Rebuilt 1.6L Diesel Engine, by Bearing Service CO in NW Portland, specializing in highly specific engine rebuilds. The rebuild was last summer, but I haven’t had the chance to put too many miles on it since then as I’ve been out of town dealing with family stuff. Basically as close as you can get to having this engine brand new from the factory.
-Brand new head gaskets July 2021 from Dean’s Car Care on Lombard
-Brand new coolant hoses, new sensors, new expansion tank September 2021
-Rebuilt Fuel Pump
-New front panel and windshield gasket, new rear driver’s side panel cut from donor vans so body is rust-free
-Upgraded Wheels & Tires to 16″ Alloy Wheel & Tire Package w/ Michelin Defenders
-GoWesty Plate Steel Bumper Set with Swing-away spare tire holder (works with hitch mounted bike rack)
-Vanagon Life locking center console with cupholders (trust me, having cupholders are a MAJOR upgrade in this vehicle. I was thinking about selling this part separately since they retail for $820 but I’ll include it)
-Custom built sliding-door rear cupboards, and replaced the rear locker pit from hell with a functional medicine cabinet
-Upgraded Gowesty canvas tent
-Upgraded Shureflo Sink Faucet & New Water Pump
-Bilstein shocks with 6″ lift give it way more clearance
-Yakima Cross Bars for surfboards or roof box
-New ceiling and door paneling give it a lighter more modern look
-Fridge removed for more storage shelves, 12 V truck fridge behind passenger seat
-Upgraded heavy duty truck mirrors

Other accessories:
-I have an ARB awning and Gowesty mounting kit that I can include for $400 as well
-Venturelibre leather toolkit mounts behind closet, super efficient way to keep tools and spare parts in otherwise non-utilized space, will include for $200

There’s probably a bunch more work that I’m forgetting at the moment, but this gives you an idea of what all has gone into this vehicle to get it to where it is today. I’ve got records and receipts for all of it, so you can see just how much money I’ve spent getting this thing ready for YOU (I refuse to add up all the numbers because my heart won’t be able to take it).
