More Details & Pictures

Finally (and sadly) selling my 85 Vanagon. Please read the full description as I am including all pertinent info.

HISTORY: I am the second owner, and have had it for about 8 years – only using it recreationally for road trips and camping. I think I’ve only put ~30K on it in that time. The original owner used it as their family vehicle since new, and it has most service records in the glove box.

TYPE: It is a standard Vanagon – NOT a Westfalia or Synchro. NO camper, stove, fridge. Just good old-fashioned space to set up as you wish. We used this exclusively for camping and I never felt a need for all those other things to be built-in. All original seats and carpet are included and in fair condition.

MECHANICS: 4-speed, 4-cylinder van. Miles are around 133K. Clutch, manual transmission, engine and mechanicals all work just fine. It’s running like a champ and has no issues that I know of, and should keep running a long time with these low miles. I always had it serviced by Verner’s VW in town for the past 8 years, and the original owner used a VW dealer the rest of the time.

EXTERIOR: It definitely has some cosmetic wear on the body due to it’s age, as well as a larger dent with surface rust in the rear passenger’s side from a minor accident before I owned it. It was cosmetic damage only, so it never bothered me enough to fix it – but there are body parts for these things around if you wanted a project. The windshield has also been cracked a couple years, and tires could use replacing soon if you’re going to drive it regularly. I’ve adjusted the price for all of these items. The color is a pale yellow and would look nice with a good wax.

INTERIOR: The interior is in pretty good shape, considering it’s age. I put in some curtains a few years ago for camping, and seats are in good condition. It does not currently have a stereo in it – but I’ll look around to see if I have one to put in.

DETAILS: I’ve had this in storage for the winter, but I’ll get it out and verify exact mileage and take some pics when it warms up this weekend. I drove it around town last weekend and everything was running great! I just bought an old truck for camping last night…so I am finally parting ways with my old adventure friend and want to see it find a new owner that will take advantage of the Vanagon life and take it on more adventures and road trips!

PRICE: I am in no rush to sell, so no lowballs. It is an old vehicle, and Vanagons always need TLC. That’s part of their charm. But I’ve listed everything here that I know of, so PLEASE don’t waste my time coming to look at it, point out things I told you about, and try to offer me $2K or something ridiculous. $3K is a fair price for this vehicle, and definitely attainable in Boulder! It would be great to sell it to someone that knows about Vanagons and has an idea of what to expect!
