1986 Volkswagen Vanagon with Rebuilt Engine Price: 17,750

This stylish, classic 1986 Volkswagen Vanagon GL has a rebuilt engine, performed by Trafton’s Auto in Portland, Oregon in 2019. Trafton’s also replaced anything and everything that needed it while the engine was out and being rebuilt. The new engine has about 7,000 miles on it, with about 215,000 miles on the body.

My wife and I have owned this van for almost 4 years (purchased it in Santa Cruz in 2017) and have put a ton of TLC into it, making it a fun and reliable adventure vehicle. We have enjoyed owning it and will be sad to see it go but are ready to upgrade to a camper van. It could make a great first van for someone; you’ll love being part of the VW community. Many repairs and upgrades have already been made. The engine has tons of renewed life due to the rebuild; it fires up instantly and is strong, and it stays cool thanks to a new radiator.

The Quirks:
This is a 37 year old, classic van, so there are bound to be a couple of quirks, as any VW owner knows. The primary one is a bit of a ‘highway hiccup’ which is somewhat standard for this year. This has been determined to be an electrical issue. Some wiring replacement has been done, but we haven’t invested in a rebuilt wiring harness yet, which could be needed to solve the issue. You could do this if it bothers you, and we have factored that cost into the price. The odometer was recently rebuilt and works great when the cable is connected, but it sometimes slips out and needs to be reconnected (something to monitor). I removed the A/C unit; it never worked. I kept the housing and it’s now a great storage space.
