This is a 98% complete 1982 VW Vanagon Westfalia. It is not pristine, but it runs well, won’t scare neighbors at the campground, and everything works. I haven’t used it as much as I would like, and I’m planning on doing more backpacking, so the camper really should go to someone who will really use it.
This Vanagon began its life as a diesel, but was converted to gasoline (air cooled) in 1994. There is a California certification for this change. The nice thing about this is that a new owner could convert this over to watercooled without any major alterations.
The interior is useable, but will benefit from some work. I will throw in some baltic birch plywood for new panels, white vinyl, and parts for altogether five seats, including two captain seats. (The seats swivel for camping.) I will also throw in paint for the poptop (from West Marine) and a new poptop seal.
Propane tank is full and ready to fuel the twin burners and the refrigerator.
The rear table is useable, but missing a part to fasten it; the front table is missing a top.
Some things I’ve done in the last 3000 miles
New tires all around (five years old but low mileage)
Tie rods/ends and boots
Fuel hoses replaced five years ago
Relays for brighter headlamps
Oil temp gauge (taco plate sender)
Cylinder head temp gauge (not wired up, but wire and sender included)
New thermo-time switch
All of the rubber engine tin gaskets
Accessory battery set up (GoWesty)
New Bosch starter battery
Front and center shift bushings
Nice later-model dash
New canvas for the poptop
Fairly straight original chrome bumpers with end caps
Complete utility doors (water and electricity)
Hardware for front table
Period VW cassette player
New camper water tank pump
New washer fluid pump
Spare parts: fuel pump, single vacuum distributor/coil/condensor, twin relay, lots of little parts, and a Bentley manual
