Hi All, please bear with me as I am passionate about this van.

I am selling my 1981 Volkswagen Vanagon Westfalia camper. This air-cooled vanagon has never skipped a beat on me and I recently got compliments from the smog technician. The Van can happily cruise at 55mph in 4th gear and hills usually mean 3rd gear and 45mph. Replaced the floppy side mirrors so you can easily see all the cars flying around you.

The van has a 4 speed manual transmission that doesn’t grind or pop out of gear. Just running around town I usually average 18 mpg and my average fill up is 13 gallons, though the tank is ~16 gallons. The fuel gauge does not work but I reset the trip when I fill up and usually fill up when we hit around 240 miles per tank.

I purchased this Van in January 2019 and have had very little to do with making it road/camping worthy.

I’ve installed a later Vanagon instrument cluster to include a tachometer (RPMs are no longer a mystery) as well as a cylinder head temp gauge around cylinder #3. We usually see temps range between 250-330 in everyday driving (including those 100 degree days). Fuel line rubbers have also been replaced in the engine bay.

All of the electronics work on the van; headlights, high beams, wipers, turn signals, horn, brake lights, dash lights, all dash instruments, radio/cd player, rear defroster, and heater fan.

The body is not perfect but I struggled to find any rust spots and all of the panels are solid.

Now for the camping Westfalia goodies.
This van does have two beds (upper and lower), poptop (original canvas top), propane tank (filled up), water tank, stove top, sink, working fridge and spare battery. There is plenty of storage as well, this van still has all of the original cubbies and shelves.

I custom fitted and installed a 100W solar panel into the storage slot on the roof. The panel is wired to the spare battery under the driver’s seat and wired to the kill switch behind the driver’s seat. If interested I can draw up the wiring diagram if you care to add more accessories to it. Currently the spare battery is hooked up to the fridge, overhead light, 300w power inverter, and a spare 12v outlet on the side of the fridge.

This van has been a big part of our family and has traveled up and down the west coast. We have gone on countless trips, helped friends move, picked up 8ft tall trees, tailgated, and even used it to provide a spare room.

I have full confidence in this van lasting a very long time and excited for the extra journeys it will experience.

Please reach out to me via email, bonus points if the email is more personable.

The new owner can expect an excel spreadsheet from my ownership since 2019 with replaced parts, oil changes and average mpg.

Cash only please. I can meet at your bank if you’d like. If the ad is up the car is still available. Also accepting reasonable offers.

Thank you
