Want a Vanagon that’s had the money spent where it matters? A van capable of taking you on adventures you see people posting about? Meet Sally.

My 1991 Westfalia full camper with the highly regarded Bostig engine conversion and automatic transmission. Reliable, easy to drive, very clean, and comfortable. Minor seam rust as expected on a 32 year-old unrestored body.

2001 Ford Focus (DOHC Zetec) engine was sourced with 30k miles on it, and has been pushing Sally for 26k+ happy miles since installed in 2018. Biggest issue since, was a starter replacement. Consistently gets 17-20 mpg highway, depending on how you drive. Takes regular octane gas.
Odometer reads 146k, it still works and will continue to increase as I drive it often.
Transmission was rebuilt at the time of conversion.
AC system is there but not hooked up.

Upgrades:

Bostig hi-clearance oil pan. (no oil leaks) in fact, the van has zero leaks of any kind.
UltraGauge, Digital OBDII dash mounted gauges.
Aftermarket round LED headlights (very bright) and grille. If you like the original look I still have all the parts for square headlights.
Bilstein XHD shocks, GoWesty springs (and leveling spacers on rear).
GoWesty transmission cooler.
Stainless coolant pipes and new radiator.
High-torque starter.
New Fuel tank, pump filter and all lines.
GoWesty big front brake kit, stainless braided front brake lines, and GW vented rear drums.
GoWesty 16″ aluminum wheels.
ARB awning.
Sunbrella 3 window poptop tent.
Poptop lift-assist struts,
All new upholstery in rear and top bed, new foam on both beds, plus an extra set of custom curtains.
New fresh water lines to sink.
Yakima roof racks.
Rear seatbelts upgraded to full size with shoulder strap, can accommodate child seat.
55ah GoWesty auxiliary battery kit mounted under driver’s seat, on a relay to charge while engine is running, powers interior lights, Bluetooth stereo, sink pump, and small 425w inverter.

Original fridge only works while plugged to shore power, but it works. Stove is now fueled by 1lb green bottles sold everywhere. Old propane tank removed.

If you are new to VW Vanagons and don’t understand the cost of engine conversions and the mechanical restoration of all the systems needed to make them reliable, Sally has had north of $20k invested in parts alone!
