This vehicle will be a great project van, or a strong starting point to have it professionally made over, without the overall markup. This is the wasserboxer / waterboxer type, with the upgraded 2.1L engine (from 1.9L). This type of Westfalia has the radiator, so it is not uncommon for it to have a newer Subaru type boxer installed for increased power (160-200+hp), if the 2.1L isn’t enough for your needs.
It drives straight and very well — comfortably cruising at 65+ mph with no overheating issues, nor temperature fluctuations. It has the typical issues of a 30 year old car, but most everything has been looked over.
Summation:
Mechanically sound – drives cool.
Full Camper — it has the Original Stove, Fridge and Basin,
Propane tank to Stove needs new fittings, and the basin needs a new pump.
Fridge gets cold and even has its original ice trays.
Original Curtains — full set, including the one that goes around the front windshield.
New Windshield
New Radiator (I have the old one)
Low Temperature Fan Switch (allows the engine to run cooler)
2.1L engine — I have the old 1.9L and exhaust system
New Clutch
New CV & half shafts (I have old ones)
17″ Via jwl wheels — needs new tires
New battery
New rear door struts
I bought this from the original owner for my mother, and she finds it too hard to drive. It had been sitting in Oceanside, so it does have two minor rust spots.
