I bought this Westy almost exactly a year ago in Fort Collins, CO with grand visions of a complete restore. Things have changed. My wife was diagnosed with brain cancer and our Westy has been sitting neglected in the garage since we moved to Oregon for treatment in May.

186000 miles on the body. The previous owner was a retired High School Principal who had the Westy restored for trips down to Mexico. We even named the Westy Ruth in honor of her previous owner.

Work done by the previous owner included a rebuilt Watercooled 1.9 Litre engine (stock) and 4 speed manual gearbox 50k miles ago, new canvas top a couple of summers ago, new clutch, new master and slave cylinders, new brakes, new battery and alternator.

Work I have done so far is: replaced a broken j-pipe and o2 sensor, installed a Gene Berg Short shift kit, “custom” rubber floor mats for the front and rear, new stereo, new antenna and replaced the broken front sway bar links. Just replaced most of the shifting components including shift housing, shift guides, shift lever with ball, selector lever cup, roll pin, and linkage boot over cup and the boot between the transmission and lever, and the gear selector fork repair kit. The Westy shifts a ton better, but could use some final adjustments (1st is still a little finicky).

Interior is stock and everything works to my knowledge. Includes both swiveling tables and both seats swivel as they should. Never had the chance to actually camp in the old girl. Has AC and Heat. Neither work. AC probably just needs a charge, and the heater needs a new blower motor in the dash. Not crazy work, I just haven’t had the time. Has studdless snow tires that have decent tread. The exterior is where it get’s ugly. This Westy needs paint! I sanded down the body and applied rust treatment before my wife was diagnosed. That’s how she sits. The reason I sanded the paint down is because on one of the previous owners Mexico trips, the sliding door was tagged with spray paint. The sweet old lady that she was, the previous owner painted a mural over the spray paint. I’ll try to snap a new exterior picture because the attached pictures don’t reflect what the paint looks like now. I have bondo and primer, but haven’t gotten to it, and won’t. There are some dents and dings and rust spots, but it’s 30 years old and has 186000 miles. This Westy passed the Colorado emissions with flying colors in 2013 and I have no doubt it will do the same here. I daily drove this before moving here and had a blast. It runs/drives fine, it’s just a bit of an ugly duckling.

Title in hand. Come take this off my hands and finish the project that I wanted to. I’ll include original owners manual, plus a couple of Westy Manuals that are like bibles for the do-it-yourselfers out there. (They explain in detail how to adjust the shift linkage)

Search around and you’ll see that a running/driving Westy with newer canvas is a steal @ $5,500 even though it needs paint. Colorado registration lapsed at the end of the year, so not currently registered. Price is firm! I will include Manuals, “Mr Heater” Propane Heater (New), Bondo (New), Primer(New), and rear speakers(New)!
