REDUCED PRICE, now $17,000. This vehicle is located in northern California near Sacramento.

1988 vanagon carat weekender version tin top
with custom roof rack as well as roof top tent. 219k miles
on frame. Professionally installed Subaru 2.2 engine. KEP
adapter, headers, and mounts. Engine completely rebuilt by
Colorado Component Rebuilders and has aprox 50k on it. TDI
beetle starter with adapter for easy starts. External oil
cooler added. Stainless steel coolant pipes. I had r-12 ac
system hooked up 5 yrs ago and it has been working great
ever since Yes! Working AC! It makes all the difference not
to have to have windows down while traveling. I also had a
a limited slip Peloquin differential put in. Go westy lift springs
as well to increase clearance. Original paint, no body work
ever done, NO rust. Minor dings and scratches as expected
over life span. New CV drive axles, new rear wheel bearings,
repacked front bearings. New battery. New tires 3000 miles
ago, (purchased in whitehorse, yukon) New stereo with aux
imput. Weekender interior meaning that van has rear seat that folds into queen size bed, pop up
table and removable rear facing jump seats.

This van is set up for overlanding. The
roof top tent is new this year, it is a 3 person tent. It’s
quick to set up and comfortable to use. I am thinking of keeping tent for our next vehicle but if its something that you are interested in we can talk about it being included in sale. Roof top tent is a great alternative to
the pop top camper tent. Roof rack is aluminum and 4’x7′. We
slept up there for our entire Baja trip and its plenty
sturdy. Custom ladder to access roof. Custom 2″ trailer
hitch hidden in bumper, used for bike rack and to tow kayak
trailer. Awning gives shade and rain protection. Has full
zip in bug mesh enclosure for awning. Also has zip in floor
for full bug shelter. Could be easily used for sleeping
area. All quick to set up.

Took van on a 40 day, 9000 mile
road trip to Alaska this summer. We have taken it to Yellowstone/
Tetons, up and down CA coast numerous times, Death Valley,
and driven length of Baja penninsula. Van has never left us
stranded.

I have owned it about 5 yrs and put
almost 45 k miles on it. It’s been a great vehicle. But it
is a 30 yrs old vehicle with a converted engine set up so it
does occasionally have things that break or gremlins that
pop up. You will have to be willing to turn a wrench or make
good friends with a mechanic. The van is in good shape but not perfect. We (
wife and I, plus 3 boys) have used it a lot to travel and
thus it is not pristine. She does 70 mph full loaded at 3300
rpms. She could easily go faster but with a van like this
its not about getting there as fast as possible. Averages in
the low 20’s mpg. 4 speed manual transmission, shifts smooth
and no issues. It is not a race horse but the subaru is a
bomber engine and provides quite a few more horse power that
the original set up. Its fun to drive and handles good.

I just changed oil and have smog cert in hand. It has a clean CA title. I’m open to reasonable offers so if you are interested, lets talk. If you have any questions, please ask. thanks.
