1987 VW Vanagon Westfalia full camper.
Van originally from California. No rust.
I’ve owned van for approx. 7 years.
I’ve done extensive work to van over years so I could take long trips with piece of mind. All following parts replaced –
Replaced engine with ford z-tec engine from 2003 Ford Focus using Bostig complete conversion kit. Van now has 135 horse power and cruises with ease down highway at 65-70 mph comfortably, and get 20-22mph.
Beautiful thing about ford z-Tec is it is a non-interference motor and not prone to head gasket issues like the Subaru motor swaps commonly found in VWs. And z-tec engines are pleantiful to come by & cheap.
During engine swap replaced following:
New radiator, gas tank, stainless coolant lines, all accessories on engine, shocks, axles, Mercedes wheels and tires, fuel pump, Ecu, wiring harness, motor mounts, exhaust, engine sensors, battery, full 8×10 awning, yakama rack bars on roof, and sure many additional parts I’m forgetting at moment.
Van runs flawlessly. I just had van inspected and emissions test performed last week. Stickers good for next 12 months. I would not hesitate to drive cross country immediately. I’ve put 6,000 miles on van since engine swap. Best thing I ever did. The Bostig engine management customer support line is excellent for any inquiries. They always reply promptly. Great piece of mind! 👍
Best part is I can go to any Napa, carquest or autozone across county and easily get parts to keep van on the road now.
Van was repainted once before I purchased. It presents itself nicely. (8/10) Could use a buffing if new owner wanted to.
Van also has new upper canvas in tent section, and go Westy interior carpet kit.
Van is very clean. Can’t say enough good things about it. Come take for a drive.
I’ll be sorry to see van go. Many great memories on the road.
