Let’s face it: my Westy, like many others, has very high miles, but has had very loving owners it’s whole life. The people I bought it from had an envelope full of receipts of every oil change and garage visit the Westy had. It was given to their mechanic and told to fix whatever it needed.
Then once I bought it, I took it to a VW van mechanic and did the same thing. So it might not have a fully rebuilt engine or even a replaced engine, but it runs incredibly smooth. I have never had any leak problems when camping in heavy rain (I lived in this thing for over a year and never felt overly exposed to the elements).
With all that being said, there are a few minor bumps in this adventurous road. The antenna bent then broke off (pictured), one of the speakers is buzzy, and the netting on the pop up is shaggy (however the canvas is perfect without any holes), and the fridge never worked for me.
This van would do best being owned by a far handier-man than I.
And it is a slow-moving van. You will be in the right-hand lane wondering if you will ever get over the hill in front of you. But you always do, and you feel awesome.
I bought the Westy originally in Colorado and moved into it full time, moving my entire life out to California. I got married then my wife and dog and I took a 2 month long road trip out to the east coast. Since then we have settled back in Colorado and have reluctantly decided to close that chapter in our lives. However, this westy needs adventure and maybe you can be the one to take him back on the open road!?
I am asking for $15,000 but I am open to offers! Hit me up with your questions, and you can come see it anytime. If it’s not this van right here, I really hope you find what you’re looking for!
